Matthew Wund is Associate Professor of Biology at The College of New Jersey. Wund was awarded a BS in Biology in 1999 from The College of New Jersey, an MSc in Biology in 2001 from The University of Michigan, and a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 2005, also from The University of Michigan. Wund is broadly interested in how populations respond to novel environments, both from the perspective of individuals expressing altered morphology and behavior (phenotypic plasticity), as well as populations evolving over successive generations. Interactions between developmental and evolutionary responses can have important consequences for the ways in which populations adapt to new challenges. The primary questions his lab seeks to answer are 1) How did plasticity influence the repeated evolution of benthic and limnetic stickleback ecotypes that occur in shallow and deep lakes, respectively, and 2) How might behavioral plasticity, including learning, allow stickleback to cope with the introduction of novel predators?
