This project uses a historical approach to investigate whether the Modern Synthesis has exerted a constraining role on evolutionary thinking, particularly with respect to causation, development and inheritance. Historical analysis helps us understand the structure of evolutionary theory and how it has changed over time, as well as the causes of, and resistance to, conceptual changes in the field.
